TRAUMA THERAPY IN PETERBOROUGH & VIRTUALLY ACROSS ONTARIO

When the past doesn't feel like the past.

You might know that something is over, but still find yourself reacting as though you're back in it. Certain situations leave you feeling on edge, relationships bring up familiar fears, or you find yourself questioning your worth in ways you can't quite explain.

Therapy can offer space to understand how past experiences may be affecting you today, without pressure to talk about everything before you're ready.

What happened then can affect how you feel now.

Difficult or overwhelming experiences can shape how we see ourselves, relate to other people, and respond when something feels unsafe or uncertain.

Sometimes the connection is obvious. Other times, you might just notice that certain situations bring up reactions that feel bigger than the moment itself.

You might:

  • Find it difficult to trust people or feel comfortable being vulnerable.

  • Stay alert to changes in other people's moods or behaviour.

  • Feel responsible for keeping other people happy or avoiding conflict.

  • Shut down, disconnect, or struggle to express what you're feeling.

  • Question your worth or feel like you need to earn acceptance.

  • Have a strong emotional reaction to something that reminds you of a difficult experience.

  • Know you're safe in the present but still find it hard to feel that way.

We don't have to start with the hardest parts of your story.

When you've been through difficult experiences, talking about them isn't always straightforward. You might know something has affected you but feel unsure how to explain it. You might want to understand your reactions without revisiting every detail of what happened.

My approach is relational, person-centred, and trauma-informed. That means paying attention to your sense of safety, respecting your boundaries, and working collaboratively rather than pushing you to share more than feels manageable.

Together, we can explore how your experiences may be shaping your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and responses today. We'll pay attention to what helps you feel grounded and what you need from therapy as we go.

The focus is on understanding your experiences and supporting the changes that matter to you, at a pace we agree on together.

What we can explore together

What does trauma-informed therapy mean?

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that difficult experiences can affect people in different ways. It emphasizes emotional and physical safety, collaboration, choice, and respect for each person's experiences and boundaries.

It doesn't mean you have to share every detail of your past, and it doesn't automatically mean you'll be asked to revisit traumatic memories. We'll discuss what feels relevant to your goals and work together to determine an appropriate approach.

The specific methods we use will depend on your needs, my clinical scope, and what is appropriate for us to work on together.

A few questions you might have

You don't have to make sense of everything alone.

Your experiences are part of your story, but they don't have to be the only thing that defines how you see yourself or move through the world.

If you're ready to explore what you've been carrying, we can start with where you are today.
